The State Key Laboratory of Bioinspired Interfacial Materials Science(SKLBIMS) is a newly established laboratory that integrates a National Natural Science Foundation of China Basic Science Center - the Basic Science Center for Biomimetic Superwetting Interface Materials and Interface Chemistry, two 111 Project bases of the Ministry of Education - the Innovation Base of Optical Functional Nanomaterials at Soochow University and the Discipline Innovation Base of Biomimetic Intelligent Interface Science and Technology at Beihang University, as well as the Key Laboratory of Biomimetic Intelligent Interface Science and Technology of the Ministry of Education at Beihang University, the Suzhou Biomimetic Materials Science and Engineering Center, the Beijing Future Technology Research Institute of Biomimetic Interface Science, the School of Nano Science and Technology at the University of Science and Technology of China, and the School of Nano Science and Technology at Soochow University, among other research bases and platforms. It was approved at the end of 2024 and is being established at the new campus on Ruoshui Road of the Suzhou Advanced Institute of the University of Science and Technology of China.

SKLBIMS as a global leading research center in bionic interface materials science, it will conduct in-depth research on the fundamental theories and application technologies of bionic interface materials, focusing on the physical and chemical essence of superwetting interface principles, the thermodynamic and kinetic essence of confined de-wetting-induced crystallization, and the physical and chemical essence of ultra-low energy consumption processes in living organisms. Guided by the major strategic demands and tasks of the country, it aims to address the remaining challenges in the fundamental theories of bionic interface materials science, enhance the original innovation capacity of new materials, develop new bionic interface materials, break through key technological bottlenecks, generate disruptive technologies, and fulfill major national strategic tasks.
